Leave a Legacy
Ever since York Minster was founded in AD627, it has been sustained by generous gifts. Archbishops, kings and noble landowners donated stone and timber to build the Minster, and countless people have in every century contributed to its upkeep and its work of worship, music and education.
The only difference today is that the Minster is kept standing by the generosity of many people rather than a few wealthy individuals. The Minster has to raise its own money for restoration work and apply for grants where it can. We do not receive money directly from government for restoration and conservation, and the costs of repairing and maintaining the Minster continue to rise. More than ever, the Minster relies on the generosity of people who love and value it.
To meet the challenge of our time, we need to build our endowment. If you would like to learn more about leaving a legacy to the York Minster Fund (Registered Charity No. 252157) please contact the York Minster Fund Development Office on 01904 557245 or email either heidic@yorkminster.org or ymf@yorkminster.org. Alternatively, you can download a form (see below).
Anyone who pledges a legacy to the York Minster Fund will receive regular newsletters and an invitation to the annual Founders and Benefactors' Service and Reception. In addition, they will become a member of The Skirlaw Society.
